JONAS CLAESSON × FREAK’S STORE ”The place where everyone has a deep love”

JONAS CLAESSONとFREAK’S STORE、今回のコラボレーションを祝したイベントをFREAK’S STORE テラスモール湘南店にて開催。

本人も在店した店内は彼のファンたちが集ったハッピーな空間となった。今回はイベント当日に実施したインタビューをお届け。

ーまずは自己紹介をお願いします。

ーCan you tell us about yourself first?

スウェーデン出身のジョナスです。サーフィンライフを充実させつつグリフィス大学でデザインを学ぶために、20年ほど前にオーストラリアに移住しました。ガールフレンドのステファニーと3歳の息子オステンと一緒にゴールドコーストのパームビーチに住んでいます。

私はアーティストで、1週間のうちほとんど毎日、何かを描いたりしています。時には遊びで、時には仕事としてクライアントや企業のために描きます。

My name is Jonas, I am from Sweden. Moved to Australia about 20 years ago to combine surfing with studying design at Griffith University. I live in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast with my girlfriend Stephanie and 3 year old son Östen.

I am an artist and draw or paint something most days of the week. Sometimes it is just for fun, sometimes for a client or company.

ーオーストラリアでの日々の暮らし、家族、ワークライフバランスについて教えてください。

ーPlease tell us about your daily lifestyle in Australia, family and work / life balance.

海の近くに住んでいるので、朝はいつもまず波チェックから始まる。風向きとうねりを見るんだ。息子を保育園に送るという朝の日課の後は、バーレイヘッズからパームビーチの間のどこか波の良いポイントでサーフィンをすることが多いね。

一日の大半は、筆やペンを執って絵を描いたり、PCでメールチェックやデータ編集したり、マーケティングをしたりしているよ。波のコンディションによっては、午後にまたサーフィンをすることもあるし、波が良くなければ外に出て他のことをすることもあるね。

週末は息子と遊び場に行ったり、ビーチやプールに行ったり。そして夕方からは友達とクラフトビールを楽しんだり。そんな感じだね😄

As we live close to the ocean, I always first look at what the wind and swell is doing in the morning. After the morning routine of getting my son to daycare, I usually surf somewhere between Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach where I live, depending on the conditions.

I usually work most of the day which is a mix of drawing/ emails/ editing/ painting/ marketing etc.Depending on the surf I might surf later in the day, or if the surf is no good I might get outside for something else.

On the weekends we usually just hang out with my son and go to playgrounds, the beach, the pool or whatever, and maybe catching up with some friends at a brewery later.

ーフリークス ストアとの取り組みについて、特に描き下ろしの作品についてお聞かせください。

ーPlease tell us about your work with Freaks Store, especially about the exclusive artwork you have drawn.

フリークス ストアのコラボレーションでは自分のいつものアートからちょっとだけ違うスタイルにも挑戦しているんだ。そしてその新しい挑戦を楽しんでいるよ！

最近フリークス ストア用に描き下ろした作品の中では”Sunday Drivers Club”がお気に入りだね。

Been fun to push my art a bit in a different direction. I appreciate the opportunity to make something a little different with Freaks.

My favourite piece is the Sunday Drivers Club.

ー今回のコラボアイテムについてどう思いますか？制作秘話などがあれば教えてください。リサイクルコットンを使用したTシャツや商品の品質について、どのような印象をお持ちですか？

ーWhat are your impressions of the quality of the products and the T-shirts made of recycled cotton?

商品のクオリティは次元が違うね！自分自身はとにかくアートに集中していて、その間にそれを高い水準でカタチにしてくれるチームと仕事できるのが本当に楽しいよ。刺繍のディテールから下げ札までに至るまで、全て素晴らしい仕上がりで満足しているよ。

The quality is next level.. Really fun to focus on the art and have a team that executes the product to such a high standard. Everything is nicely done, from the embroidery details to the swing tags.

ー来日する際、お気に入りの場所や楽しみ方はありますか？

ーDo you have any favourite places or things to do when you come to Japan?

お気に入りは食事と温泉かな。特に思い出に残っているのは昼間に素晴らしいパウダースノーを楽しんで、その後に疲れた体を温泉でほぐして、日本食とビール。これ以上の一日はなかなか無いんじゃないかな。サーフィンしてから美味しいランチってのも良いけどね。

I love the food and going to hot springs.I think my favourite Japanese activity I have ever done is enjoying the great powder snow in the winter during the day, followed by an onsen, and then Japanese food and a beer. Not sure life gets much better than that 🙂

Similar experience with surfing and then a good lunch at an Izakaya, delicious.

自分にとって日本は大好きな旅先なんだ。そんな中でも今回のFREAK’S STOTE 湘南店でのイベントは、フレンドリーなファンがたくさん会いに来てくれて特別楽しい時間だった！湘南は、僕が暮らしているオーストラリアと同じように、みんなが海を深く愛している特別な場所なのかもね！

I love coming to Japan, my favourite place to travel. This time at Freaks store in Shonan was very special because so many fun friendly people showed up. Shonan seems to be a special place where everyone has a deep love for the ocean, like Australia.
